| Just saying in my opinion its easier to drop the trans first... yes a little more time involved but you don't have to tilt the motor and trans at a extreme angle to get the oil pan to clear the radiator core support as the transmission is still under the fire wall. With the trans off you can simply lift the motor straight up. Plus you don't have to worry about weight any more. With the trans on you have to lift the motor up a little, then pull everything forward, lift some more, pull forward some more. The transmission will hit the fire wall as you raise the motor. You will have to push down on the transmission to keep it from scratching the fire wall all to hell and that tilts the motor up at a pretty extreme angle. Eventually you will gain the clearance you need to get the oil pan to past over the Radiator support. A trans jack could be used to hold the trans in place but really there is no reason to hold the trans in position considering both methods involve dropping the drive shaft, Trans mount bracket, shifter assembly, exhaust, and unplugging everything. When pulling the trans with a trans jack make sure you have the trans secured with a ratchet strap. When putting everything back together all you would have to do is raise the trans back up and scoot it forward. I recommend getting a trans jack for any reason. They make everything transmission related easier in the long run.
